READ: 1
SAMUEL 13:6-14
The eye
gate is both deadly and delicate. The devil often uses this gate as entry point
into the lives of men and women. We all know how invaluable the eye is. Without
it, the body will be thrown into darkness. That is even a small problem. A
greater problem lies in the result of having eyes and using them to behold
things that can lead one to hell. If you don’t control the eye, it will control
and ruin you. How can we control our eyes? There are two major things to
consider. You have to be careful of what you look at. These days, some
so-called Christian have no better pastime than to watch films or read novels
that are contrary to the world of God. I prefer to use my time reading my Bible
than to waste precious time on activities that do not edify me. The Bible says:
“Who
is blind but My servant, or deaf as My messenger whom I send? Who is blind as
he who is perfect, and blind as the LORD’s servant?” (Isaiah 42:19).
The perfect man must be like a blind man. Your eyes must be blind to everything
that is of the world and are sinful. Secondly, you must walk by faith and not
by the things that you see. 2 Corinthians 5:7 says: “For we walk by faith, not by
sight.” Many people have denied God through what Satan has shown them.
There is a striking example in this regard, as recorded in our text. King Saul
wanted to go to war and Samuel had already told him to wait for him, as he had
to offer some sacrifices. King Saul was not patient enough. He became afraid of
the might of the opponent. When Samuel did not show up, instead of relying on
God, Saul made the sacrifice. Don’t ever allow your eyes to lead astray. If you
focus your eyes on your strength or energy, you might go into actions that are
contrary to the will of God. We sometimes fix our gaze on the achievements of
people around us without considering the fact that God has a different plan for
us. The human eye is so powerful that it is capable of setting the entire body on
fire. Watch what you see. Watch how you react to what you see.
