READ: 1
SAMUEL 28:5-6
There are
some ways of knowing if the fire of the Holy Spirit in your life is going out.
The first thing is lukewarmness. When the fire is out, the hot will become
lukewarm and the lukewarm will gradually become cold. In those days, we took
our Bibles to the toilet with the aim of learning more about Jesus while we are
there. Today, many of us feel having read from Genesis to Revelation, we have
no need of the Word again. Ministers do not prepare sermons anymore: all they
do after picking up their Bibles now is to refer to the markings at the
margins. Are you lukewarm? If you remain so, God may spew you out of his mouth.
When the fire is out, ashes gather. Ashes represent past testimonies and glories. If you do not have current and living testimonies of your walk with God, it is evidence that the fire is out. If all you say is that in those days God did this or that with me, you have become history! When the fire is burning there will be noise. When the fire of the Spirit has gone out in one’s life, there will be silence. In 1 Samuel 28:5-6, after God had departed from King Saul, all attempts he made to hear from God were futile. When last did you hear from God? If as a minister God has not whispered something into your spirit for a whole month, either your church is dead or you are dead.
Another way of knowing the fire is out is that flies begin to gather. When the gas cooker is not longer hot, the oil stains will begin to attract flies. Flies represent demons. The devil is called Beelzebub which means ‘father of flies’. When you see ministers of God asking for deliverance, you should know something has gone wrong. (1 Samuel 16:14).
The final way of knowing whether the fire is out is that darkness will set in. As long as there is some fire burning, there will be light. But once the light goes out, darkness comes. Sin is darkness. Has the fire gone out in your life? Run to the God of Pentecost today!
