THE BETTER OPTION

READ: ACTS 20:32-35
It is good thing to be blessed. It is, however better to be a blessing. Many Christians request, pray for and desire blessings. Some desire to be a blessing. But only very few actually take the steps to becoming a blessing. The four lepers in Samaria, having entered the camp and enjoyed the spoils of their enemies, were blessed. They had a surplus and several fixed deposits. But they did not stop there. They became restless until they took the good news to the king’s palace, so that others could benefit from God’s provision. In the process, they moved from being blessed to becoming a blessing.
“I will make a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing” (Genesis 12:2). In the promise he made to Abraham, God said he would become a blessing. In Acts 20:35, it is written: “I have shown you in every way, by labouring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that he said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” From our reading, Paul in spite of being saddled with a very busy ministry that cut across national boundaries, still had to use his hands to fend for himself, so as to be blessing to those who were weak or poor.
Paul knew the secret. When God blesses you, you are automatically in debt to others. When you bless others, the power of your anointing pours out and then begins to call for replenishment from the Throne Room in heaven. But when you do not bless anyone, you become like a Dead Sea that only receives and begins to stink. If you remain in this condition, your blessing will turn into a curse. Hebrews 7:7 says the less is blessed for the better. This means the hand of the one who is always remain on top. Deuteronomy 28:13 promises that as we obey his commands, he will place us always above. Stop being a dead sea. Become a blessing to others by giving to them through the spreading of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
MEMORIZE: ACTS 20:35 –I I have shown you in every way, by labouring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that he said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’
