SAMUEL 3:8-10
“Also I heard the
voice of the Lord saying: ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?’ Then
said I, Here am I; send, me” (Isaiah 6:8).
When you enter God’s presence, you are assured of hearing his voice. If God is present, you will hear from him. Hearing his voice bring joy, even if all you heard was a rebuke. According to John 3:27-29, the friend of the bridegroom rejoices because he can hear his voice. David used to hear God’s voice all the time. It gave him much joy. But when he killed Uriah to marry his wife, God’s voice suddenly fell silent. David became miserable and prayed the words recorded in Psalm 51:8, “Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which You have broken may rejoice.”
The moment you stop hearing God’s voice, it seems as if your bones suddenly break. It is better to die than to lose fellowship with God. When last did you hear his voice? If you cannot hear him, do you remember when he stopped speaking to you? Retrace your steps and make amends where necessary.
In today’s passage God spoke to Samuel for the first time. Samuel heard God’s voice, but Eli heard nothing. If God is speaking and you aren’t hearing it, especially if you are a minister of God, you should ask yourself whether God is preparing someone to replace you. You should search your heart and seek God’s face, so that his voice in your life may be restored.
When you hear from God, it means he is present in your life. It means he is not planning to replace you. It means that, even if you have offended him, your case is not beyond pardon. But when you cease to hear from God, you should seriously consider why it is happening. Seek his presence and worship him. Shower him with love and let him speak to you. Do all you can to get him to speak to you.
