WHY YOU CANNOT HEAR

READ: ACTS 13:1-2

If you wait on the Lord, the Holy Spirit will speak to you. If know to give God what he really loves, you will hear his voice. If you praise, worship and glorify God regularly, he will speak to you. “He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches; To him that overcomes will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.” (Revelation 2:7)
From the above verse we know that there are at least three categories of people when it comes to the ability to hear in the spiritual sense – those who have no ears, those who have ears but refuse to hear, and those who have ears and use them. Why would people not hear God? People may not hear when God is speaking due to spiritual deafness. In 1 Samuel 1:10-16 Hannah was praying to God for a son. The high priest Eli, who should have been spiritually tuned in to the Holy Spirit did not know what she was doing. He though she was drunk.
If you cannot hear from God, it may be because you are spiritually asleep. You may also be far from God. Similarly, other noises and voices around you may interfere with your ability to hear the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit. Anyone listening to gossip, backbiting and other damaging rumours is unlikely to hear God’s voice.
“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lust shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears.” (2 Timothy 4:3).
If you refuse to listen to truth and prefer to hear what you would like to hear, you are unlikely to hear God speak. Pride will also prevent you from hearing God’s voice. Some people cannot hear from God, because they cannot stay quiet. What is hindering you from hearing from God today? Deal with it now.

MEMORIZE: 2 TIMOTHY 4:3 –For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lust shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears.
