BETWEEN PHYSICAL AND SPIRITUAL SIGHT

READ: JOHN 20:24-29
What you hear a way of affecting you. What you see equally has immense impact on you. It takes you to see to be able to believe. It is commonly said that “seeing is believing”. Thomas could not believe that Jesus resurrected until he physically encountered Him and thrusted his fingers into his nail-pierced hands, and spear-pierced side. After he confirmed this, he acknowledged it was the Lord. “Jesus says to him, Thomas because you have seen Me, you have believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed” (John 20:29). Just like what you hear, what you see also causes you to believe.
Sight is a very powerful medium of communication. One reason people are more addicted to television than radio is because of the power of sight. What you hear generates faith but what you see generates more faith. When you hear that a man was cured, you may believe but still leave room for doubt. But if you see a notorious mad man in his right senses, it will leave no room for doubt. We live a life of faith. The life of faith does not accommodate doubt and unbelief. God expects you to believe after you hear and then you will see. But your physical senses want you to see first before believing.
Your ability to believe God when you hear His voice sets you apart from the crowd. It places you on a higher spiritual plane than the follow who wants to see the miracle before believing. What you see will determine the extent to which you can go. How far can you see with your physical eyes? Jesus knows the importance of sight to receiving from God. He said there is a blessing that comes from believing without physical sight. He was not condemning the benefit of sight. He was only de-emphasizing over-reliance on physical sight. He meant to say that if you can hear God’s Word, do not bother to see it physically, strive to see it spiritually and you will receive a greater dividend from your spiritual sight. What you see with your spiritual eyes has a greater impact on you than what you see with your physical eyes. While the physical eyes see today and now, the spiritual sight sees tomorrow and your future.
MEMORIZE: JOHN 20:29 –Jesus says to him, Thomas because you have seen Me, you have believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
