CORINTHIANS 5:6-8
Apart from
several ordinary wives, the king has a favourite wife; one who is set apart and
special to him. Attaining the status of a favourite wife is not easy. It is for
a select few. In fact the king has to take extra care in appointing the
favourite wife, because if she is not completely loyal to him, she will be a
great asset in the hands of anyone who wants him dead. This is because she
knows everything about him, including his weaknesses. To become a favourite
therefore requires unity with the king in aspirations, hope and desires.
“But as He which has called you is holy, so be you holy in all manner of conversation; because it is written, Be you holy; for I am holy.”(1 Peter 1:15-16).
To be God’s favourite, you have to be as perfect as God is. God is holy. You too must be holy. In John 14:30, Jesus said he had nothing of the devil in him. Sin is Satan’s property. To be Christ’s favourite, you must totally empty yourself of every satanic load and be in total agreement with Jesus (Amos 3:3). The Lord gave me two illustrations to explain the meaning of perfection.
The first one is: should a tiny piece of faeces drop from a baby’s nappy into a bucket of pure water, would the water remain pure? The second is: Should a 70 year old man who had never flouted the law mistakenly murder his wife out of anger on his birthday; would he go free because of his past record? “Your glorying is not good. Know you not that a little leaven leavens the whole lump?” (1 Corinthians 5:6).
One mistake can destroy a lifetime of perfection. God expect his favourite to remain blameless to the end. In Numbers 20:7-12, we see Moses, a great and wonderful leader who blamelessly led the Israelites for 40 years. One day he made a mistake and God told him he could not enter the Promised Land. Ask the Lord to make you blameless till the end.
