READ: PSALM
79:9-13
“His mother says to
the servants, Whatsoever He says to you, do it.” (John 2:5).
Mary, the mother of Jesus, understood him well. In fact, she knew what it meant to be a disciple. At the marriage in Cana of Galilee to which her family was invited, the wine ran out. Mary went to inform Jesus, but he told her his time had not yet come. Yet she went to the servants and told them to do anything he instructed, whether it appeared foolish or not. They obeyed and water became wine.
As a true disciple, you must learn to do whatever God tells you to do, promptly and totally, without questioning. 1 Samuel 15 tells us that King Saul’s refusal to obey God to the letter was what cost him his kingdom. If God tells you to sow $ 100000 into his house and you give half, your obedience has become disobedience. Instead of earning a blessing, you may reap a curse. In Acts 16:6-7, God asked Paul and Silas not to take the gospel to Asia and Bithynia, even though he was the same God who said: “Go you into all nations and preach the Gospel.”
John 8:32 states: “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
This tells us that knowledge shall set us free. Not general knowledge, but the knowledge of God’s Word. There are some people with a PhD in Theology, yet not born again. In fact, 2 Timothy 3:1-7 says of such people that they will ever continue to learn and yet be unable to come to the knowledge of the truth. Ecclesiastes 12:12 reveals that some types of knowledge can bring you into bondage.
How much of God’s Word do you know? How much of the Word do you believe? How much of the Word do you practise? A true disciple knows the commandments of his Master. These are contained in the Bible. How many of them do you practise?
