UNGODLY INFLUENCE

READ: 1 KINGS 11:4-11
Ungodly influence is the bane of many who have received wonderful promises from God. If you keep company with the ungodly you will pay dearly for it. Certain Bible characters thought that they were smart enough to dine with the devil by using the proverbial long spoon. They lost out at the end. Let us examine a few of such characters. Ahitophel was a wonderful counsellor who had supernatural wisdom. In fact, according to 2 Samuel 16:23, receiving his counsel was like listening to God Himself. However, at the end of his days, he hung himself because he got hooked to Absalom. The Bible warns that we should not be equally yoked together with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14). If you go into business with unbelievers you may be asking for trouble. Likewise, we have instances of women who brought curse into their husband’s home. And, of course, there are women who had everything going fine for them until they married their husbands. Such partners are likely to have carried over problems from their cursed families. We have similar cases in the Scriptures. In 1 Kings 21:25 we read: “But there was no one like Ahab who sold himself to do wickedness in the sight of the LORD, because Jezebel his wife stirred him up.” Another example is in 1 Kings 11:4, 9-11: “For it was so, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned his heart after other gods; and his heart was not loyal to the LORD his God, as was the heart of his father David...Because you have done this, and have not kept My covenant and My statutes, which I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom away from you and give it to your servant.
What brought trouble for Solomon? His wives. In the same manner, going through the scriptures, we meet husbands who brought curses upon their wives. One classical example is David who had a curse placed on his family when he committed adultery. Watch your deed! They could have tremendous effects on your family lineage. Ensure you live right always.
MEMORIZE: 1 KINGS 11:11 –Therefore the LORD said to Salomon, Because you have done this, and have not kept My covenant and My statutes, which I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom away from you and give it to your servant.
