ROMANS 11:13-23
Anyone God
has rejected should prepare for what follows next, destruction. We can look at
some cases in the Bible. When the Holy Spirit departed from King Saul, the
vacuum was filled by evil spirits. When God rejects someone, that person will
be in sorry shape. It is preferable not to have been used by God than to become
an erstwhile vessel of honour. When God rejected Eli, he heard the news that
led to his death: his two sons had died on the same day (1 Samuel 4:10-22). In
fact, his daughter-in-law, who was about to deliver a child, was affected by
the same tragic circumstance and named her child Ichabod, meaning ‘the glory
has departed’; shortly before she died as well.
Judas Iscariot was a prominent disciple of Jesus Christ. He was one of the few who held a portfolio – treasurer. He healed the sick and cast out demons like the other disciples. After he was rejected, he hanged himself (Matthew 27:3-5). It is a dangerous thing to become an ex-minister, worker or servant of God. If you are currently engaged in the service of the Lord, take care, because just like Satan desired to have Peter, so does he desire to break your link with God and thereafter ensure your destruction. Nature abhors a vacuum. Immediately the Holy Spirit leaves a man, unclean spirits will move in. This means that at any point in time, you are filled with some spirit. But which spirit fills you?
Before God rejects a man, he warns him of his wrongdoing. Sometimes he may use others, or circumstances to warm him. He may even permit some low level reprisals to come to him. But if he continues to harden his heart, God will commence proceedings for his rejection. When God is done, it will be irreversible.
“He who is often reproved, and hardens his neck, will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.” (Proverbs 29:1). How seriously do you take God’s correction? Each time you disobey, God moves you one step closer to the point of rejection. Shun every sinful weight and wholly turn to him.
