FRIEND OR SON?

READ: ROMANS 8:14-19
Abraham was called the friend of God (James 2:23). Lazarus was also called friend of Jesus (John 11:11). Moses got so close to God that he could talk face to face with Him as friend (Exodus 33:11). A look at the lives of those who became God’s friends reveals that they enjoyed great and uncommon benefits. They are let into God’s secrets and taken as God’s confidants. Jesus would not mind doing anything for His friend even if it means raising him from the grave. God’s divine presence is always with His friends. Why not readily pay the price and become a friend of God today?
Being God’s friend is not the ultimate. You can move on from friendship with God to full sonship. Proverbs 16:28 and Proverbs 17:9 say it is possible to cause division among two friends. This means remaining on that level of relationship, Satan can possibly get at you. The ultimate is to reach the level of maturity as a son of God. When you get to this level, you cannot be hidden; you will shine as light no matter the level of darkness around you. You will be blameless, and above reproach (Philippians 2:15). Power is bequeathed on sons (John 1:12, Romans 1:3-4). The Son glorifies his Father through everything He does (John 14:13). “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God” (Romans 8:14).
The son is one who has relinquished his ability to direct his movement and decisions to the Holy Spirit. To what extent are you daily guided by the Spirit today? John 8:35 says servants work and are paid and eventually leave the house one day. Friends visit for sometime and eventually return home but sons abide in the house forever. Hence the son of God is an heir of God according to Galatians 4:7 as well as a joint heir with Christ (Romans 8:16). This means that it is those who have matured as adopted sons of God who will co-inherit all that God has with Jesus Christ the Son of God. Jesus was born as baby. Isaiah 9:6 says He could not be manifested to the world until He moved from babyhood to Sonhood. As a child He could not be offered at the cross until He matured as Son. In 1 John 3:8, when He manifested as Son, He began to destroy all the works of the devil. Today, with millions born again, the world is still waiting for the manifestation of the sons of God (Romans 8:19). According to 1 John 3:1-2, it is the sons that shall be translated to become like Jesus the Son of God on His appearing. Why not start working towards maturing as a son of God today?
MEMORIZE: ROMANS 8:14 –For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
