READ: ACTS
23:1-5
Restitution
is the act of putting right your wrong doings. It is a veritable proof that you
have had an encounter with Jesus. Restitution goes hand in hand with salvation.
After Zacchaeus the notorious rich tax collector received Christ in Luke 19, he
immediately announced that he was going to give 50% of his wealth to the poor
and anyone he had defrauded will receive four-fold. This act of faith and
righteousness was commended by Jesus saying, “This day is salvation come to
this house…”
Restitution is an avenue to make your ways right with your fellow man while salvation makes your ways right before God. One is not complete without the other.
“And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward, and toward men.” (Acts 24:16)
As a child of God, it is very important to restitute your crooked ways. A thief who becomes born again but fails to restitute has a questionable salvation and will stand as a hindrance to the salvation of others. But the one who restitutes openly testifies of his new life in Christ and gives opportunity for others to come to Christ.
A particular brother once stole a book from the school library during his secondary school days. His text books were stolen so he too stole that of his colleagues. But after he became born again, he met his friends whose books he stole and confessed what he had done years earlier. He also wrote the principal and sent the book he stole from the library asking his forgiveness. As at this time he had changed schools due to his parent’s wish. This act of obedience brought great joy into his life. Do you have pending restitution? Prayerfully take a bold step today.
