THE DIVINE CHOICE

READ: PSALM 91:1-8
There are many categories of blessings. There are general blessings while there are special blessings. Today, we shall focus our attention on what is called selective blessings. For example, I know I have been selected specially blessings. Verse 7 and 8 of our text says, “A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you. Only with your eyes shall you look, and see the reward of the wicked.” You must have heard of cases of motor accidents where everyone died with only one survivor. In a gathering of one thousand Christians, it is certain that some people would be more blessed than others. They have a fixed purposed at the back of their minds. Such people believe that they will not go back hoe empty-handed. There are instances of selective blessings in the Bible. Joseph was a member of a family of twelve brothers. He was neither the first-born nor the last born, yet God picked him out for a special blessings. God said that all his brothers would bow down before him. David also had seven big elder brothers. In fact, when Samuel came and saw the first-born, he was sure he was the one whom God had chosen (1 Samuel 16:6), but God said no. God rejected all of them until it got to the turn of David who was not even recognised by his father, Jesse. Why would God select some people for special blessing? This happens because such selected people have satisfied certain conditions. Joseph, for example, had the fear of God right from his youth and hated sin. When the wife of Portiphar invited him to sleep with her, he refused because he did not want to sin against (Genesis 39:9). He did not say that he did not want to sin against Portiphar. Many of us do not wish to sin against the pastor but are willing to sin against God. This shows where we have placed our priorities. If God discovers that you possess the requisite qualifications for receiving His favour, He will bless you beyond your wildest imagination.
MEMORIZE: GENESIS 39:9 –There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?
