READ: JOHN
13:33-36
Jesus’
primary mission on earth is to destroy the works of the devil. “He
who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this
purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the
devil.” (1 John 3:8). The healing, the salvation of souls, deliverance
and everything that Jesus did was to destroy the works of the devil. One of
these works of the devil is hatred. God is love while Satan is an embodiment of
hatred. After completing His assignment, and before He returned to Heaven,
Jesus Christ formed the nucleus of an army here on earth. He gave specific
instructions o the army. We need to understand these commandments because they
will determine whether we make it to heaven or not. The first order is
summarised for us in John 13:34-35: “A new commandment I give to you, that you
love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this
all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
This order is repeated in John 15:12 and 17: “This is My commandment, that you
love one another as I have loved you.” “These things I command you, that
you love one another.”In heeding this command, you may discover that
some members of the army appear unlovable but our duty is to love them, anyway.
And the love must be genuine. Romans 12:9 say: “Let love be without hypocrisy.”
Wherever there is genuine love, there is no strife. This is the kind of love
that exists between God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. We
need to give prominence to this kind of love. Do you have the love of God in
your heart? Are you able to love the unlovable? Do you manifest love towards
members of God’s family, irrespective f their social standing, age or race? If
you lack love, whatever you do is empty and worthless.
