CONFIDENCE

READ: 1 JOHN 5:9-14
One of the greatest lessons, which we ought to learn, is that we ought to repose confidence in God instead of putting our trust in mortal man. The stories of certain Bible characters reveal that life is unpredictable and human help is undependable. No condition, no matter how good, is permanent. The only permanent thing is God’s faithfulness and grace. This is why we must hold unto God tenaciously at all times. Many of us would only come to God when there is a problem. We use God as a fan. When the heat is on, we turn Him on and when we are cooled, we switch Him off. You cannot remain a Divine champion that way. When there are no problems at all, you must pray. Whoever wishes to remain a Divine champion must remain in contact with the One who made him a champion. In other words, he prays when there is no contest and when there is a contest. Psalm 50:15 says, “Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.” Job 5:19 says: “He shall deliver you in six troubles, yes, in seven no evil shall touch you.” It does not matter how many troubles that come against you, provided you keep on praying. He would still be there to make sure you remain a champion. The moment you sense that trouble has come, go immediately to your prayer closet and begin to call on the Almighty God. Many of us wait until the storm has almost swallowed us before we remember that we have Someone who can help us. In Mark 4:35-41, Jesus Christ was in a boat with his disciples when there, arose a storm. He was sleeping while they battled with the boat on their own. It was when the boat started sinking that they remembered that there was Someone who could help. Psalm 46:1 says, “GOD is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Call on Him anytime there is the slightest trouble. When most of us get into trouble, the first thing we think about is our social and political connections. We put our confidence in man instead of putting our trust in God. Human beings will fail but Jesus never fails.
