TRUE DELIVERANCE

READ:  ROMANS 7:10-25
The word ‘deliverance’ has been largely misunderstood by the church. Somehow, some people have over-blown the issue and made the issue of deliverance sound more important than other issues like Christian living, faith, commitment to the word of God, the power of the gospel, etc. deliverance is good but things must be placed in proper perspective. God ha the ability, if you will allow Him, to make sure that your feet will not be moved either by your enemies or even by yourself. When we talk about deliverance, many a time, we think of deliverance from our enemies but the first deliverance that God should do for many of us is deliverance from ourselves. Many of us are our own enemies. If God can deliver us from ourselves, then there will be no problems with the outside enemies. In 2 Timothy 1:12, Paul said: “For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.” What did Paul commit into the hands of God? He committed his soul. He asked the Lord to deliver him from himself because he could not take care of himself. In Jude 24, the Bible says, “Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,” There is Somebody who is able to keep you from falling. The Bible says, in Hebrews 7:22-25, “By so much more Jesus has become a surety for a better covenant. And there were many priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing. But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He ever lives to make intercession for them.” Because Jesus lives for ever and on the right side of the Father, interceding for us, He can save us to the uttermost. He has the ability to make sure that we do not fall or backslide. He has the ability to deliver us from ourselves.
