A DEADLY BLOW

READ: 1 KINGS 19:4-15
We have a lot of lessons to learn from the physical realm. Some of our experiences in the world remind us of serious spiritual realities. When I was in the university as a student, I was a boxer. In boxing, there are three types of punches one can use to defeat the opponent. The first one is the jab, which is a soft punch. You could go on jabbing the head. While doing this, the opponent is made to expose his stomach. You would then take advantage to this to land the second type of blow, which is the hook. As the hook lands on the stomach, he would bend towards you. This now gives you the opportunity to use the third type, which is the knockout punch. This would bring him down completely. Satan is a good boxer. He knows how to use these three types of blows, as we will show from the Bible. Today, let us start with how Satan fought with Elijah. Elijah expected that, after the event on Mount Carmel, all the people would start serving God. However, this message from Jezebel depressed him.
This was the jab from Satan. When Satan saw that Elijah has become depressed, he put fear into him. Fear is one of the greatest weapons used by Satan. Before long, Elijah started asking God to take his life.
Many times, Satan brings this type of evil thoughts to the children of God. Most people backslide after such encounters. Do not allow the enemy to give you a technical knockout (Ephesians 6:13-16). Learn to be in the offensive. Fight until every foe is vanquished.
