THE DANGERS OF A CURSE

READ: 1 KINGS 16:31-34
Today, we shall consider a very instructive Bible story. Here, we are introduced to what happened in Jericho, a beautiful city under a heavy curse. Many people’s lives can be likened to Jericho city. There are beautiful on the surface but carry a heavy burden underneath. Many have been reduced to walking corpses by curses. The genesis of this curse is recorded in the Scriptures: “Then Joshua charged them at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before the LORD who rises up and builds this city Jericho; he shall lay its foundation with his firstborn, and with his youngest he shall set up its gates.” (Joshua 6:26). Joshua pronounced a curse on Jericho after the city fee. He said if anybody dared to re-build the wall of Jericho, such a fellow’s first child would die while he is laying the foundation, while his last born would die when he is finishing the building. The implication is that, as the fellow continues to build; his children would be dying from the first to the last. This prophecy was fulfilled to the letter.  And Ahab made a wooden image. Ahab did more to provoke the LORD God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel who were before him. In his days Hiel of Bethel built Jericho. He laid its foundation with Abiram his firstborn, and with his youngest son Segub he set up its gates, according to the word of the LORD, which He had spoken through Joshua the son of Nun. ” A curse is a terrible thing. Once it is pronounced it begins to work. It may work quietly, but is surely works. Is there any curse upon your life? Pray until it is removed and you will begin to lead a blessed life.
