THE FIRST BATTLE

READ: GENESIS 3:1-9
The greatest weakness of mankind can be traced to the inability to learn from history. We often repeat past mistakes and fall into the same pit our predecessors fell into. The moment we begin to learn from history we will walk as wise men and women. In Genesis 3:1-19, we see how Satan confronted our first parents. We want to examine certain hidden facts in our text. Today, we shall consider Satan’s methods. This passage reveals how Satan confronted our first parents. Let us pay close attention to verse 1: “Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God has made. And he said to the woman, Has God indeed said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden? ” Satan did not approach Eve in his physical form but as a snake. Satan does not approach people as a fighter but uses other images and forms. He even uses snakes and other types of animals. He uses human beings, too. Why does he disguise himself? He knows that if he comes directly, you will recognise him and flee. When he wants to give poison, he would add some sugar to it. He knows the method of killing fish by using the hook and the bait. Satan decided to approach Eve first instead of going straight to Adam. He knew that he would not be successful with Adam. Satan struck when Eve was alone. Satan is a coward. He has always been a coward. He has always been a coward. He is always looking for the easiest way out. Husbands have a lesson to learn here. Do not allow your wife to be far from you spiritually or else she would pull you down. If your wife is cold, Satan will come into your household through her. If not for the angels who were with Lot, he too would have looked back and become a pillar of salt like his wife. Many mighty men of God have fallen through women. The Bible admonishes us to flee from sin. 1 Corinthians 6:18 says, “Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.” God says you should flee from sin. God is not saying that He cannot save you or make you overcome, yet He says we should flee from sin. When Joseph was left with the wife of Potiphar and she enticed him, the Bible tells us that Joseph ran away. You must be holy and the whole world must see you as holy. Learn from history. Don’t let Satan trap you. Watch and pray.
MEMORIZE: 1 CORINTHIANS 6:18 –Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.
