THE KILLER

READ: JUDGES 16:19-31
A lot of believers underestimate the strength of the devil. Some people believe that they are so smart that they can dine with the devil by using a ‘long spoon’. Don’t dare it. A spoonful of meal from the devil’s plate is as poisonous as a drum of ‘gamelin 20’. Today’s text shows how Samson played a dangerous game with the devil and lost out. Samson still thought he was in control, so he still took Delilah’s request as a joke. Sin is not a joke. Since kills, no matter how little. Satan is not a fool. Satan may not be powerful but he has wiles. Many of us toy with sin. We do not learn any lesson from previous events. Satan has expended enough energy on Samson and so he want for the kill. He instigated Delilah the more. Samson told Delilah the true source of his power, in Judges 16:17-21. This was the knockout power blow. However, Satan did not leave Samson. Once Satan gets you, he would not leave you until you breathe your last. The hair of Samson grew again and Satan decided to finish him. Let us look at the last prayer of Samson in Judges 16:28: “Then Samson called to the LORD, saying, O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray! Strengthen me, I pray, just this once, O God, that I may with one blow take vengeance on the Philistines for my two eyes! ” In this last prayer, Samson did not pray for deliverance but for revenge. He did not pray for the healing of his eyes. He actually prayed for death. How true are the words of the Bible: “The way of the unfaithful is hard” (Proverbs 13:15). It is unfortunate that Samson’s spiritual eyes were so blinded that he opted to die with his enemies. Samson travelled on the highway of sin and suffered final defeat at the hands of the killer –sin. Sin is a killer. Dread it like a plague!
