SAME START, DIFFERENT FINISH

READ: JEREMIAH 1:4-5
Everyone who comes into this world begins as a baby but some end up as great people, while others end up as mean men. Some become the movers and shakers of their times, while others are totally unheard of and make no impact. Romans 9:16 says: “So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.”
Thank God he loves you and his mercy is upon you. According to our reading, even before your parents met, God had concluded his plan concerning you. You are not a mistake. God has a purpose for your life. No matter what you are going through now, God says that since you are his child and have determined to follow him, your tomorrow will be all right. Your end shall be greater than your beginning.
God is sovereign. And as such he does whatever he likes and no man or demon can question him. It has pleased God to make you his own, so that after your earthly existence, you can be with him in heaven. However in determining how people end up, two factors are prominent: God’s divine plan and the individual’s personal responsibilities. God has a plan for your life. By reason of this, irrespective of whatever may have happened, his plan will still come to pass. We see that in Paul, when as Saul he persecuted the church, but when God said enough was enough, he became a strong pillar of the same church he had once persecuted (Galatians 1:13-16).
Where there is a divine plan, divine intervention will always follow. Take Paul’s case into consideration. People have always asked why God chose to love Jacob and hate Esau even before their birth. That brings in personal responsibility. God knows your heart in spite of whatever promise and profession you may make. God knew Esau will despise and sell his birthright. He also knew that David would serve him from his heart and that king Saul would abuse the privilege given to him. God loves those who love him (proverbs 8:17). Will you be responsible for what God has committed into your hands? If you won’t, God can change his plan. May he never change his plan for your life.
MEMORIZE: ROMANS 9:16 –So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.
