HOW WORD OF KNOWLEDGE WORKS

READ: GENESIS 19:12-25
“And the man of God sent to the king of Israel, saying, Beware that you pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down” (2 Kings 6:9).
The king of Syria met and agreed with his aides on the location they will camp and wait to attack the unsuspecting Israelites. But after they had finalized their arrangement, Elisha who was in Dothan in Israel immediately sent to warn the king not to go by that location and in the process, was saved a couple of times. But how did Elisha know what was discussed in a meeting he did not attend in another country? Man’s knowledge is limited. 1 Corinthians 13:9 says all we have is part knowledge but God is unlimited in knowledge (Acts 15:18). When a man is hooked up with God, once in a while, the Lord could give him a glimpse of what He knows. This is done through the gift of the word of knowledge (1 Corinthians 12:7-8).
The word of knowledge is a tiny piece of God’s unlimited knowledge. How does He give such information? Through dreams. This does not mean that you should believe every dream. Some dreams come because of the day’s activities. For instance, if you over eat, you will likely dream of food. If you have been on a prolonged fast, you may dream of being fed in the dream. A thirsty man dreams of water. But there is a revelational dream. How do you know it? It would appear very vivid, and you will hardly forget it. Sometimes, you will wake up in the middle of it. It may be unconnected with what you thought of before going to bed. You can be sure God is telling you something from it (Genesis 41:25, 29-32).
God can pass the word of knowledge through the audible voice like in Peter’s case (Luke 5:1-6). It could be through an inner vision –seeing with your spiritual eyes, e.g. Gehazi (2 Kings 6:15-17). It could be through open vision -which you see even without sleeping. The word of knowledge, however, can only benefit you if you act on it. Lot’s sons-in-law were told of the coming destruction, but they still perished because they failed to act on it. God told Eli of His anger against him and his children through young Samuel, but instead of repenting, he asked God to do what He liked. The extent to which you apply the word of knowledge will determine the extent of your benefit. Jesus asked Peter to throw in all his nets, but he threw only one which limited his catch. A general word of knowledge to every Christian is that whatever we give to the Lord would be multiplied by 100 and given to us. Yet during offering or time to sow, we only think of what we are giving but not what will come back. How have you responded to both specific and general word of knowledge you have received?
