PRICE FOR KNOWING CHRIST

READ: 1 TIMOTHY 4:10-16
When Paul said, ‘That I may know Him’ in Philippians 3:10, he was saying, Lord, thank you for the fishes but teach me to fish. The Lord will teach you to fish from today in Jesus name. A comparison of Daniel 11:32 and Hosea 4:6 shows that while the revelation of who God is produces strength and automatically positions you for the miraculous, the absence of this knowledge weakens the believer, prohibits miracles and evokes various levels of destruction. If you desire a total freedom from destruction, then seek the Lord, seek to know Him.
A look at the word ‘That’ which begins the phrase ‘That I may know Him’ suggests that apostle Paul has already paid the price for the purpose. In Philippians 3:7-8, Paul said he traded his empty pride, wordly achievements and ambitions just to qualify to know Jesus. There is a price to pay if you desire to know Him. Nobody can know Him except by divine revelation. This goes beyond just reading about Him. It takes you paying the right tuition after admission into His university and taking the right courses on the knowledge of Jesus Christ, under the tutelage of the Holy Spirit. Paul lived a purposeful life because he paid the price. Do you really want to know Him? Are you ready to forgo all your accomplishments just to enroll in this heavenly course?
The letter ‘I’ in the phrase ‘That I may know Him’ shows it is a personal affair. Paul did not say ‘we’, ‘you’ or ‘all of the apostles’ but ‘That I may know Him.’ In Philippians 2:21, he says, “For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ’s.” While others were in pursuit of their personal agenda, Paul was walking a lonely road. You may travel that path for days, weeks, months or even years and may not even meet one person. The gate into this journey is the Word of God. When last did you study your Bible for three, five or hours? When last did you receive a revelation from the Word during your personal Bible study? The edge you can have over your family, department or congregation is obtained in the place of Bible study. When last did you do nothing but mediate on a particular verse of the scripture? When was the last time you visited the city of revelation? If you can make frequent trips to this city, you will be on your path to becoming outstanding in your generation.
MEMORIZE: 1 TIMOTHY 4:15 –Meditate upon these things; give yourself wholly to them; that your profiting may appear to all.
