THE CAPTAIN

READ: EPHESIANS 6:13-17
The captain of our salvation has made available to us all the weapons which we will ever need for our warfare. This is stated very clearly in our text. Principally, there are three weapons: the name of Jesus, the Word of God and the Blood of Jesus. Praise and prayer are also part of our weaponry. The name of Jesus is our greatest weapon. The Bible says: “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at that name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:9-11). The name of Jesus Christ is an extremely powerful weapon. Whenever you use that name in prayer, demons bow. In 1 Samuel 17:45, David said to Goliath: “The David said to the Philistine, You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.” The whole armour that the Bible says we should put on in our text is reduced to one word, JESUS. The captain of God’s army has given us His name. The mention of His name spells V-I-C-T-O-R-Y! We are more then conquerors through the name of Jesus. You are not fighting the battle of life alone. Jesus is our captain. He is always near. He is as close as the mention of His name. Our text also tells us that the girdle to use is the truth. Jesus is the Truth (John 14:6). We are also told to put on the breastplate of righteousness: Jesus is the Sun of Righteousness (Malachi 4:2; 1 Corinthians 1:30). The boot that we are told to put is the boot of peace: Jesus is the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). Our shield is the shield of faith: Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), He is our shield. As far as spiritual warfare is concerned, Jesus is all you would ever need to achieve victory in all your battles. With the captain of our salvation, every soldier is a winner.
