RIGHT WORDS

READ: 1 SAMUEL 24:16-22
When light and darkness meet, one must bow to the other. John 1:5 says, “And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” This means darkness has been destined to always bow before the light. Similarly, when falsehood comes against the truth, the latter prevails. 2 Corinthians 13:8 says “For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth.” Proverbs 14:19 predict victory for good people when confronted by evil ones. It says, “The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.” All three words, light, truth and good refer to Jesus. This simply means as long as you conform with them, victory is assured. But if you deviate, victory is lost.
According to today’s reading, David succeeded in pacifying king Saul momentarily through well-articulated, anger-free words. Words are very powerful because according to Proverbs 15:1, they can cause great anger to make a u-turn. Also Proverbs 25:15 says the soft tongue is so strong that it can break bones. Today, many wives are often in trouble because they do not know how to apply the strength of their tongue subtly to achieve their desires. When your husband is talking angrily, that is not the time to talk tough or harsh, or else Satan will kindle the fire of a quarrel. Ask the Lord to help you to speak the right words at every occasion.
How you answer a matter could determine the outcome. Your tongue can either make or break you. In 2 Chronicles 10, Rohoboam, the son of king Solomon was advised by his late father’s counsellors to speak good words to the people, and they would voluntary serve him forever. He refused and used harsh words and in the process he lost all the tribes of Israel except Judah. May you not use your mouth to cause your own downfall in Jesus name. Wrong words to your spouse and children could drive them far away from you. They will still be living with you but they will become strangers to you. Have you driven those in your department or parish away through wrong word? Repent and go back to them, make peace and use the right words to bring them back.
MEMORIZE: PROVERBS 25:15 –By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaks the bone.
