CALLED TO EXCEL

READ: 1 CHRONICLES 4:9-10
Outstanding people are masters to average people. Average people generally live and die as slaves and servants. In any establishment, it is better to be the managing director than to be a supervisor or manager. The managing director can sack any middle level staff when he wants. You have been called to excellence. Accept your call today. The excuse of average people is not that they do not know that they have been called to excellence; they complain rather of lack of opportunities and means. The fact is that most of the outstanding people who are being celebrated today started with a handicap. Several odds faced them. But they decided that they will not die average. And God backed their decision, making them what they are today.
In today’s reading, we encounter Jabez. If there was somebody born with a handicap, it was Jabez. The moment he was born, his mother placed a curse on him. She said, your name shall be called ‘sorrow.’ She must have delivered him under sorrowful circumstances. As he grew up, his mother would call him, ‘Sorrow, go and fetch me a bucket of water.’ ‘Sorrow, go and eat your food.’ Sorrow became his trade mark. Jabez struggled through life. He worked like an elephant but harvest like an ant. The demons of sorrow trailed him like flies to a cow’s tail. Everything he touched caused him sorrow.
But one day Jabez decided that although he was born in sorrow, and had experienced sorrow up to that point, he must not die in sorrow. He took the matter to God. He said ‘Father bless me indeed’.
This means he had been seeing blessings with his eyes but his hands had not handled any. He said, ‘Lord, enlarge my coast.’ This means he had been working in a tight corner for so long but now he wanted a release for expansion. And he became more outstanding than his brethren who did not face the type of odds he did. The Lord will turn your life around. God will bless you indeed. The Lord will enlarge your coast. Go to Him today. His ears are open to your cry.
MEMORIZE: 1 KINGS 4:29 –And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore.
