WAKE UP

READ: JAMES 1:13-15
There are degrees of sleep. A man can slumber. He can sleep. He can go into a deep sleep. He can have the sleep of death and finally death. The one who is slumbering knows he is dozing. The eyes will gradually close up and reopen. The one who is dozing can do something about it because he is partially conscious of his state. Check yourself. If you are seeing signs tending towards spiritual sleep, immediately take corrective steps. In those days, to keep awake at night while preparing for an examination, students would tuck both feet into a bucket of cold water. They will inconvenience themselves one way or another. If you know kneeling down beside your bed to pray is express way to sleep, stand up and begin to walk about as you pray.
If praying quietly or in your mind hinders effective praying, begin to voice out your prayers. If you are feeling more at home in company of the opposite sex, deliberately make yourself scarce to them. If you know you are gradually spending church money in you care, immediately return it. If the house maid is suddenly becoming more appealing and caring towards than your wife, send her away. You can prevent yourself from sleeping. Be hard on yourself. Don’t spare yourself or you could regret it later.
The one who is sleeping does not know he is sleeping until somebody wakes him up. Slumbering precedes sleep. Lukewarmness precedes rebellion. Covetousness will always precede stealing. Carelessness and overconfidence will precede a fall. According to our reading, lust will precede adultery. If you are asleep, I pray the Lord will wake you up in Jesus name. It took the cry of the arrival of the bridegroom to wake up the ten virgins. Wake up in Jesus name. By the time some who are sleeping wake up, precious things which cannot be recovered would have been destroyed. Great opportunities would have been lost. The enemy might have done quite some havoc. Yet it is better to wake up and begin again than to sleep the sleep of death. The Lord will wake you up and keep you till He comes in Jesus name.
MEMORIZE: ISAIAH 52:1 –Awake, awake, put on your strength, O Zion; put on your beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for hereafter there shall no more come into you the uncircumcised and the unclean.
