EVIDENCE OF SLEEPING

READ: ISAIAH 29:10-11
There are certain characteristics that are common to sleeping men. Through such signs, you will easily know a man who is asleep. The first thing you notice about him is that he cannot see. His eyes are closed. According to our reading, because the sleeping man has been thrown into a deep sleep, he will not have vision. Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish, but he that keeps the law, happy is he.” This means the sleeping man is headed for destruction. If events keep taking you unawares, it is an evidence that you must be sleeping. This is because Psalm 25:14 says “The secret of the LORD is with them that fear Him; and He will show them His covenant.”
If you had no prior knowledge of a calamity that befell members of your congregation, it shows you are sleep. If you are unaware of the enemy’s attack against your family, you are sleeping. If you cannot see tomorrow and have no vision as a minister of God, you are sleeping. Wake up.
“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6).
A sleeping man is never hungry or thirsty. If it has taken long since you hungered or thirsted for spiritual gifts, you must be sleeping. If you have lost your thirst for the truth, righteousness and God, you are asleep. In addition, a sleeping man does not speak. Whenever praying, praising God or evangelism becomes a burden to you, it means you are sound asleep. A sleeping man cannot be seen walking about. He will be on the same spot, probably on his bed. If you are not making steady progress, you are asleep. If you are where you were some twelve months ago spiritually, you are a backslider. Ask God to wake you up. A sleeping man does not experience sorrow or joy. The sensitivity of a sleeping man is at its lowest ebb. If your conscience no longer pricks you for wrong doing, you have gone into a deep sleep. Wake up today!
MEMORIZE: 1 THESSALONIANS 5:6 –Therefore let us not sleep as do others but let us watch and be sober.
