INGRATITUDE

READ: JOEL 2:23-26
“And I gave you your master’s house, and your master’s wives into your bosom, and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given to you such and such things” (2 Samuel 12:8).
One of the sins king David was convicted of was that of ingratitude. The Lord told him, ‘You were an ordinary shepherd boy sleeping in the wilderness with lions and bears as companions when I came and took you to become king. I gave you the household and wives of your master king Saul and also gave you your own wives. Yet you were not grateful.’ Many today are guilty of the sin of ingratitude. We have forgotten where God took us from. We are full of ourselves and think we attained our present height and accomplishments through personal efforts and hard work. Some would prefer to give themselves a pat on the back and celebrate their skill and professional prowess than say a ‘Thank you’ to the One truly responsible for their success.
Ingratitude is a spirit. If it is in someone, the fellow will be blinded to all God has done but place in focus only pending matters. Do you habour the spirit of ingratitude? If you are already complaining that God has not done this or that, or you are finding it difficult to offer Him genuine praise and thanksgiving for what He has done since the beginning of this year, you have the spirit of ingratitude. How much can you pay to live to see the next day? Go to the hospital and find out from doctors. The families of those at the point of death do not mind paying anything to prevent their beloved ones from dying, yet they still die. How much do you pay God to live the next 24 hours?
Anyone who is ungrateful to God is under a curse. Ingratitude is what is blocking the blessings of many believers today. The grateful leper out of ten did not know there was something better than healing-the termination of an illness. Through thanksgiving he got to recover all the lost over the years. Miracles of healing and breakthrough will come to God’s children but the greater miracle of restoration-recovering all that were lost can only come to those who have learnt the art of thanksgiving. Have you been claiming the promise of restoration in our reading without success? It could be as a result of your poor score in gratitude to God. Turn a new leaf today. Make thanksgiving a lifestyle!
MEMORIZE: LUKE 17:17 –And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?
