WAYS OF KNOWING JESUS

READ: MATTHEW 16:13-17
In Philippians 3:10, Paul said, “That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being made conformable to His death.”
The most important word in the phrase, ‘That I may know Him,’ is ‘Him.’ It refers to Jesus Christ. To know Jesus Christ, you would need to go from what you already know about Him to what else there is to know. From Matthew 1:21, we know He is the Saviour and that it is only by His name can we be salvaged (Acts 4:12). Also, Exodus 15:26 says He is the Great Physician who according to 1 Peter 2:24 has paid for our healing by His stripes. He is also the Great Provider (Philippians 4:19). He is the strength of the weak according to Philippians 4:13 and defender of His children (Romans 8:37). More than these, He is a friend closer than a brother (John 15:15). He is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6). Jesus is everything to us.
How can you know Him? There are conventional and non-conventional methods of acquiring knowledge. First, it could be through dissemination of information using any medium of communication like Cable News Network (CNN). Apostle Luke presented the Gospel according to Luke on the life of Jesus Christ in writing to Theophilus. Second, by personal observation through careful study of the subject matter. This was how Nicodemus got to know about Jesus.
John 3:2 says, “The same came to Jesus by night, and said to Him, Rabbi, we know that You are a Teacher come from God; for no man can do these miracles that You do, except God be with him.” In other words, Nicodemus was telling Jesus, ‘I have studied you carefully over a period of time and have drawn my conclusion that you have something to offer to us.’ Whether you like it or not, people are secretly watching and observing you. If they open their mouth to give a dossier on you, you will be shocked. Third, it is by association. When Jesus chose 12 disciples in Mark 3:14, it was primarily for them to be with Him. Also you can acquire knowledge by revelation. According to our reading, when Jesus asked the disciples what people said about Him and what they believe He was, Peter answered, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’ And Jesus immediately told Peter; he got the answer by revelation from His Father. As a believer, you can get to know the Lord through these ways. The more of Jesus you know, the more powerful you become and are ready for any battle.
MEMORIZE: MARK 3:14 –And He ordained twelve, that they should be with Him, and that He might send them forth to preach.
