READ: 2
SAMUEL 13:1-14
We live in
the last days. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 gives a breakdown of the things that will
characterise this period. Men will become so self-conceited to the point that
the true love of God in their hearts will be eroded. The rate at which people
invent and indulge in evil is quite alarming.
In today’s reading, we see Ammon the eldest son of David in a violent lust for his half-sister, Tamar. He was in his early twenties while Tamar was a very beautiful teenager. Absalom, Tamar’s elder brother, was very handsome. So you can imagine how beautiful his sister would have been (2 Samuel 14:25-27). Ammon nursed his lust until he was overwhelmed by it. He sought counsel from his friend with whom he devised a plan which led to raping Tamar.
How terrible! You may say. Do you know that incestuous relationships are on the increase in many families today? Many hearts have become so depraved and seared that they do not see anything wrong in parents getting sexually involved with their children, or grand-parents with their grand-children, or brothers and sisters with each other. Incest is an abomination before God. At the beginning, God allowed marriages between close relations hence Abraham could marry his half-sister, Sarah. But after the Law was given, it prohibited such relationships (Leviticus 18:6-7).
Several Christian homes have become breeding places for incest. How? Parents do not monitor the programmes their children watch on television. The children have such liberty all day long thereafter they begin to experiment what they have seen. God will hold such parents accountable. Are you into incest? Break away today.
Incest brings fast judgement on those who indulge in it. Also, it stagnates the progress of the families. It can come with terrible consequences on the children much later in life. Parents should get actively interested and involved with their children. Ask them questions and guide them on the type of programmes they should watch and those they should not. Give them reasons. Teach them what God says about such. Holiness is required to raise these godly seeds.
