WORD OF KNOWLEDGE

READ: 2 KINGS 6:8-12
“For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit.” (1 Corinthians 12:8). According to 1 Samuel 2:3, God is a God of knowledge. He has a great databank where He stores information – past, present and future about every subject in Heaven, on earth and underneath the earth. While human beings are so limited that their knowledge is measured by issuing certificates of knowledge, we cannot measure God’s knowledge or understanding (Isaiah 40:28). When the need arises, God reveals a bit of what He knows to those who are close to Him. It could be through an audible voice, vision or in some other ways.
God has reason for giving His children a word of Knowledge. First, it is to warn against an imminent judgement as He informed Abraham of His plan to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah so that Abraham could intercede for them.(Genesis 18:17-21). In the same vein, God audibly revealed His plan to destroy Eli’s family to Samuel (Samuel 3:11-14). Also, through a word of knowledge, God can reveal the secret intention or sins of people like the case of Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5:1-5).
Through a word of knowledge God can guide His own and prevent them from making mistakes. God guided Samuel to select David as king-elect of Israel among the Jesse’s family (1 Samuel 16:6-12). Many Pastors or leaders today chose by appearance, eloquence or wealth of candidates and thereafter problems begin. If you chose for yourself, prepare for trouble. But when God chooses for you, it shall bring you joy. According to our reading, through a word of knowledge, Israel was delivered from imminent danger. Also, in Acts 10:1-10, God used a word of knowledge to direct Cornelius to the place of his salvation. When God directs you this way, you can never make a mistake.
By this gift of the Holy Spirit, you can know your next apartment, appointment, place of assignment, mission field, etc. God could use it to encourage His servants and give them good tidings before they happen as the case of Elijah (1 Kings 19:9-18). This gift is especially for God’s friends. Are you a friend of God? If you have compassion on somebody and intercede for the fellow, God will reveal things about the fellow to you.
MEMORIZE: 1 CORINTHIANS 12:8 –For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit.
