READ: 1
JOHN 5:1-6
Every child
of God has the seed of God in him or her. From that seed comes a tree which
eventually bears the fruit of the Holy Spirit (1 John 3:9; Galatians 5:22-23).
According to our reading, the moment you are born again, you have overcome the
world and have the power to overcome sin like Jesus did. This means it is
possible for you to live without lying throughout this year and beyond.
The following are ways through which you can overcome lies: First, fear God above every man. Men are limited. There is limit to what they can do to you but there is no limit to what God can do (Psalm 27:1; Hebrews 13:6). It was the fear of God in Joseph that made him refuse an offer some today would wish for (Genesis 39:7-12). The fear of God in your heart will automatically generate love for God. The more you love God, the less appealing sin will become.
Another way to overcome lies and falsehood is by diligently studying and memorising God’s word. The more of this you do the less you will sin. The farther you are from the Bible the more vulnerable you will be to sin (Psalm 119:11). As much as possible avoid people, places, situations and activities that can cause you to lie. If Abraham did not go down to Egypt he would not have tempted to call his wife, his sister (Genesis 12:10-20). Avoid Egypt.
Just as every lies evoke judgement so does truth evoke blessing. Each time you refuse to lie, your act of faith is recorded for righteousness and Jesus will be proud of you. Also, you need to watch your mouth and put a padlock over it. Avoid talking too much for ‘in the multitude of words there wants no sin.’ Think before you talk. Be quick to hear but slow to speak. There are situations that may be pressing and volatile. You may immediately get a private place and ask God for a word of wisdom. He will give the appropriate words to speak. In business you do not have to disclose your cost price: Tell your customers what your selling price is and the least you can go. The more you establish you business on truth, the more true customers you will have.
