UNANSWERED PRAYERS: DISOBEDIENCE

READ: DEUTERONOMY
One thing that works against an effective prayer life is disobedience. Unfortunately, many trivialise it. Disobedience to God Almighty is a terrible sin. All the promises of God to His children are tied up to obedience (Deuteronomy 8:1). Isaiah 1:19-20 says your obedience will bring fulfilment while disobedience will evoke judgement. Have you been living in disobedience? Repent today.
There are certain implications of disobedience in the life of anyone who claims to know the Lord. Disobedience is an act of unbelief and the scripture says whatsoever is not of faith is sin. If God says ‘Go’ and you refuse, it shows pride, meaning that God has become your equal and therefore you can rub shoulders with Him. Also, you constitute a stumbling block to the blessing or progress of others whom you are expected to bless. This happens when God asks you to preach to someone or sow a seed to meet a need but you refuse.
When God tells you what to do over an issue and you refuse, it means you do not have confidence in God’s word or ability. This means you have a better alternative. Your disobedience makes God a liar as in the case of Adam and Eve. God said if you eat of the fruit, you will die. Satan told them you will not die and they ate it to prove God a liar. Disobedience pitches your tent with the devil making you a rebel. It is an insult to God. The consequences of disobedience are many. It stagnates your progress and that of those close to you like Achan. It robs you of God’s plans and blessings just as it robbed Adam and Eve of the Garden of Eden. It strips you of support from God, leading to defeat as seen in today’s reading. It hinders prayers and turns you into an enemy of God that should be punished.
A brother who was involved with an international business was instructed of God to assist a sister who was in dire need of 5 000 Naira. He refused. The Spirit prompted but he refused again. Later, his business ran into problems as he moved from credit to debit. He became indebted to the tune of 500 000 Naira which took him a long time to clear. But he had learnt his lesson the hard way. Don’t think you are smart by being disobedient. You are not. The disobedient is foolish and by his acts only succeeds in blocking his way. Go ahead and obey God in everything.
MEMORIZE: ISAIH 1:20 –But if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured with the sword; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken it.
