READ: LUKE
5:1-7
Peter was
an astute fisherman who was dedicated to his work. The previous night, he and
his colleagues had tried all the fishing tricks without catching a single fish.
On this fateful morning, they were still making some effort when Peter looked
at the river bank and saw Jesus addressing a multitude. Little did he know his
fortune was about to change. May you not miss the opportunity that will lead to
your breakthrough!
Jesus needed a boat to enhance His ability to comfortably preach to the people. He chose Peter and he readily loaned his boat. Thereafter, Jesus asked him to throw his nets for a catch. He obeyed and got his breakthrough. There are few lessons the Lord would have us learn from this story. When Jesus arrived at the sea side, He saw two boats but He chose Peter’s. This goes to show the place of divine selection in God’s dealing with men. God always has an alternative. If He has chosen you, you are privileged. The issue is that His choosing you was at the cost of rejecting someone else. That breakthrough could have gone to any of Peter’s fellow fishermen. If God had chosen anyone else, we would not have even heard of Peter in scripture. Thank God for choosing you to be the leader or pastor of your department, parish, area or province. It could have been someone else.
“Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure; for if you do these things, you shall never fall.” (2 Peter 1:10).
Here the Holy Spirit through Apostle Peter is saying having been chosen, justify God’s choice. Let Him appreciate the fact that He chose you and not someone else. This you can do through whole hearted devotion to Him, fulfilling your ministry, praising and worshipping Him regularly, living in obedience and not allowing His grace on your life to be wasted or frustrated. Paul says, “I do not frustrate the grace of God ...” (Galatians 2:21). Do you?
