READ: LUKE 19:12-27
“Every branch in Me that bears not fruit He
takes away: and every branch that bears fruit, He purges it, that it may bring
forth more fruit” (John 15:2).
In John 15:1-6, a distinction is made of two classes of believers –those who bear fruit no matter how few and those who refuse to bear fruit. Jesus said while He will prune the fruitful ones to make them more fruitful, He will cut off the fruitless ones. Verse 6 says the fruitless ones will end up in the fire. From this passage, another reason several believers will end up in hell is because of fruitlessness. John the Baptist speaks of such people in Luke 3:9, “And now also the axe is laid to the root of the trees: every tree therefore which brings not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.” 1 John 3:9 says the day you were born again, a seed was sown in you. If your heart proves to be a good soil, that seed will die and produce a righteous tree which will bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). If He looks at a life but cannot see the fruit of righteousness, He will cut such a person off. The Lord will cut you off in Jesus name.
1 Corinthians 9:27 talks of the possibility of being a castaway. There are two ways a believer can be cast away. First, according to the above passage it is possible to be castout of God’s kingdom if you are busy winning souls to Christ but refuse to keep your flesh under. In other words, just as you are actively recruiting souls for Christ, your flesh is actively indulging in sinful pleasure. Never get too busy with the work God has given to you that you do not have time for personal spiritual growth and development. Your making it to heaven is priority before winning of souls or kingdom service. If something is wrong with your relationship with God, take a break of the work and sort things out with God before you resume the work. Another way to be a castaway is that some who backslide after working for God, and great rewards have been reserved fro them will not only miss heaven, they will also miss their blessing in heaven. So they are cast away from the benefits of the eternal kingdom. There will be several completed houses, crowns, stars and other rewards that nobody will because the owners did not make it to heaven. Eventually, Jesus will have to distribute such bonuses to those who excelled in His service (Luke 19:23-26; Matthew 25:26-30). You can benefit from the extras!
