AS GOD LIVES

READ: PSALM 115:3-8
In 1 Kings 17:1, when Elijah met King Ahab, he told him, “As the Lord God of Israel lives.” The first thing the Holy Spirit wants to do in your life is to show you the reality of God. He makes the living God real to you. Before we were born again, we had very funny ideas about God. We believed He was somewhere in Heaven but were not sure. Some of my colleagues once said, ‘If God was ever in Heaven He must be dead by now due to the worries of this world.’ But by the help of the Holy Spirit we know that He is alive.
Our reading makes us to know that apart from the living God, there other gods. These are idols which have ears but they are deaf. They have mouths it is those who worship them that speak for them. They have feet but cannot walk. Wherever you place them, there they would be until you remove them. They are very useless and if they cannot defend themselves how can they defend you? Stop wasting your time serving such dead gods. They are liability to the worshippers.
In Judges 6:30-31 Gideon destroyed the altar of Baal and the town dwellers gathered to kill him but his father told them they are the ones to fight the cause of Baal. If he is truly a god as they claim, let him fight for himself. The witch doctor people go to for prosperity is even more wretched than those he wants to help. If his god is as powerful as he claims, why does he not first take care of his priest?
Some years ago before I knew the Lord, I was taken to a witch doctor who would help me with charms to prevent my car from accidents. We arrived his dirty house and he observed the look of surprise in my eyes. His leg and right hand were bandaged. He told us he was involved in a motor accident five days before and was the only survivor. He escaped with a broken leg and arms. In my heart I wondered, how can this fellow who could not protect himself from accidents, protect me? Thank God for Jesus Christ. If you are still serving those dead gods, repent today, destroy them and come to Jesus Christ, the true and living God.
MEMORIZE: JUDGES 6:31 –And Joash said to all that stood against him, will you plead for Baal? Will you save him? He that will plead for him let him be put to death while it is yet morning; if he be a god, let him plead for himself, because one has cast down his altar.
