MATTHEW 4:1-11
You can
identify Satan’s voice through his irresistible offer for which you will be
asked to pay little or nothing. Another way to identify him is that the voice
will either question God’s word, put it in disarray or totally contradict it.
In Genesis 3:1, Satan asked Eve, Did God prohibit you from eating from any of
the trees in the Garden? By this he both questioned as well as distorted what
God said. Any voice you hear that questions what God has said or that distorts
it, is from Satan.
Whenever Satan speaks to you, his purpose or reason for asking you to do a particular thing is not to glorify God but for self or vain glory which contradicts 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. He told Eve, eat the forbidden fruit and you will become as gods, not the Almighty God. He convinced Judas to betray his Lord by telling him he would have some money for himself. Even today, everything Satan asks you to do ends up gratifying the lusts of the flesh. He tells you, ‘alter the accounting figures and the difference will make you a millionaire.’ He will tell a parish pastor, ‘You are building God’s church and since you are in need of money, lie about your tithes so that the difference can be used to build it; afterall, it is not going into your pocket.’ But 1 Samuel 15:22-23 says, God prefers complete obedience to sacrifice. So any voice that tells you to do something so that people will know that you too have arrived, or so that you will become more popular, be wary of it; it could just be Satan.
Satan’s words contain some elements of lies which are cleverly mixed with the truth. The greatest lies are those of this sort – a little drop of lie in a cup of truth. Satan told Eve you will not surely die. Of course she ate the fruit and still lived physically. He did not tell her she will die spiritually; that was left for her to experience. Satan will tell you, if you join witchcraft, you will become more powerful than the average human being and would be in control. But he will not tell you that your entrance into witchcraft will make you destroy all your loved ones, change your diet into feeding on the blood and flesh of fellow humans beings which makes you a general enemy of God and the human community; a slave to his whims and caprices and therefore a target of God’s judgement both in hell and right here on earth.

of light.
