GALATIANS 6:5-9
The issue
of restitution is one that many believers do not want to hear of at all. They
are ready to receive Christ but not prepared to right the wrongs in their
lives. What an irony! There are several reasons genuine believers should
restitute. The first is because of the law of harvest. “Be not deceived; God is not
mocked; for whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap.” (Galatians
6:7).
From this verse, a man reaps what he sows. Normally, when you sow two or three seed of corn, you will reap two or three cobs of corn, each having about 500 seeds. That is the law of harvest. Once you are born again, the blood of Jesus cleanses you from sin. But the evil seeds you planted as an unbeliever will grow into trees which you will harvest before you will leave this world.
This is exemplified in Saul. As an unbeliever, he was a very zealous Judaist who did a lot of havoc among Christians. He organised the stoning of believers and hurled several of them into prisons. He beat them with rods and bound them. When he became Paul the Apostle, he began to reap the evil seeds he had sown. He was stoned, bound and beaten several times. He was imprisoned several times and faced serious persecution, all because of what he sowed.
Salvation does not prevent you from harvesting what you have sown, as some have taught. That is why you have to restitute. Restitution in this regard simply means uprooting the trees you have planted. A tree that is uprooted cannot bear fruit again. If you restitute after a lie, you will not reap several people coming to deceive or lie to you. But if you refuse to restitute, do not blame the devil or enemies for the consequences of your deed. Things are only taking their normal course. Believers who indulge in evil acts against fellow believers and unbeliever are classified as ‘wicked’. To prevent them from ending up in hell, restitution is inevitable.
