READ: JOHN
10:31-36
Usually,
Satan will ask you to do something that breaks God’s commandment. Any voice
that asks you to sin is of the devil. Reject it with all vehemence. A voice
that tells you to steal, kill, divorce your wife and remarry, not to pay your
tithes, marry a second wife, go to a witch doctor or idol for help, is of the
devil. This is straight forward and easy to know.
A voice that tells you to do something controversial saying, it does not matter, watch it! The devil might be the one whispering to you. Hebrews 13:4 says while pursuing the consummation of marriage, your bed must remain holy and undefiled. A voice that tells you, ‘What is wrong if you are a little intimate with your spouse, after all you are in courtship and would soon be married’, is from the devil. He will say you can hug her a little – it’s only a harmless hug. Or giving her a little peck; is just right. It begins as very harmless but before long, your bed is defiled.
Any voice that stampedes you into performing whatever it tells you, most times comes from the devil. His voice is very pushy, forceful and harsh. But sometimes it can mimic the still small voice of the Holy Spirit. When he does this, he cannot sustain it for long. In addition, usually, Satan’s purpose is to compel obedience to him. He craves worship and obedience from human beings. He will try every trick in the book to get you to obey him. The summary of the three temptations of Jesus in Matthew 4:1-11 was to compel Jesus to obey him. Any voice you hear, that after your analysis amounts to disobeying God or obeying Satan, is of the devil.
In Genesis 1:26-31, after making Adam and Eve, God vested in them the power and authority to rule this world. God was God in Heaven while man was god of this world. When Satan came to Eve, he told her if she ate the fruit, she will become a god. But she was already that. In fact, it was as a result of eating the fruit that she lost that position. This shows that what Satan sometimes offers you as a reward for obeying him, is actually what you already have which you do not know you have. Do not fall prey to his devices any more.
