AFTER A LOSS

READ: HEBREWS 3:7-13
There is no smoke without a fire. If you ever lost the power of God in your life, there must be a cause. The first thing to do is ask yourself what happened. God does not change. If anything, the change must be with us. “For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.” (Romans 11:29). Once God has released a particular gift or a measure of His power to you, He has given you forever and has no intention of taking it away. It is only you who can throw such gifts away. It is commonly said that prayer changes things. This may or may not be true. But one thing I am sure of is that prayer changes people. Prayer never changes God. He is ever constant. Have you suffered a loss? Issue yourself a query. Ask, ‘where did I go wrong? What door did I open to the devil to come in?’
You can lose God’s gifts and power through doubt. When God heals you and you later begin to doubt if it is real or not, the devil will come and steal it. His excuse being that you were not sure you had it in the first place. Somebody said he was baptised in the Holy Spirit and could pray in tongues, but doubts if it was God who actually baptised him in the Holy Spirit. Such a person is a candidate for loss of the experience.
Overeating is a cause of loss. Your body is like a conductor. If you are over fed most times, the power of God will not freely flow out as it should. It will be like a wire that is not pure enough to conduct electricity. If you have all your three square meals daily God cannot use you effectively. If you overeat you will totally lose your power. For others, too much comfort is the cause of loss. Most modern churches started very well even though they suffered then. But when they became comfortable they began to sleep. I pray that God should never give me the kind of comfort that will make me say I no longer need Him.
How is your Christian life today? Have you cancelled fasting and vigils from your register because you have arrived at some measure of comfort? Repent today. You can be flourishing and still live a simple and God-fearing life. You can very poor but remain totally useless to the Lord. The choice is yours. What graces and gifts of God have ceased to operate in your life and ministry? Ask why and trace it to the root cause. Repent and make your ways right. God wants to use you. Be spiritually fit today.
