MATTHEW 22:1-14
“Again, he sent forth
other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden. Behold, I have prepared my
dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come to
the marriage.”
(Matthew 22:4). At every meeting where the Holy Spirit is present, He sets a
table full of His goodness and invites us to partake of them. Unfortunately,
some believers have not realized who they come to meet, which accounts for their
negative responses to fellowship. 1 John 1:4 says it is God you come to meet when
you attend church programmes. Hence Hebrews 10:25 says you should not absent
from such meetings. As you attend each service the Lord imparts into you the
things you need urgently, and sometimes what will meet future needs.
Among those that come into God’s presence, are the early comers. These make certain sacrifices to be early for the programme. The early comers display a knowledge of who has summoned that meeting. They know it is not the pastor but the King of kings that has invited them. They also know the invitation is to make them partake of God’s presence. This set of guests qualifies for a full dose of what is set on the table.
Another set of guests are the late comers. There is a wide range of such. It covers those who are a few minutes late to those who arrive just in time to share the benediction. This group has a problem subduing their flesh. They indulge the flesh to the point that it is their body that controls their spirits. They never take an appointment with God seriously. They are complacent and do not hunger or thirst after God. Such guests end up with crumbs, the remnants of blessings that the early comers have left. Late comer can hardly have enough of God’s blessing. They will keep praying and fasting for certain things but the day the Lord will send an angel with the blessing, they will be in church. The angel would have returned with their blessing before they arrived church. To which group do you belong? If you are not around to take your portion of God’s blessing from any meeting, somebody else will. Persistent late coming to God’s house is not an accident but a choice. How can those who have chosen to disregard God by always coming late to meetings receive honour and blessing from the one they frequently dishonour?
Repent today. Crumbs are meant for dogs, not for children. (Matthew 15:21-27).
