SELF-CENTRED CHOICES

READ: NUMBERS 32:1-7
In 1 Samuel 22:5, prophet Gad delivered a message to David. Before now, David who had been fleeing from his master King Saul, arrived at a seemingly safe haven and before long he had become a captain over 600 people. He had become a local champion and was already resting on his oars when the message came that he should leave the safe and fortified cave for an uncertain forest. The one who will follow the Lord must never settle for half measures. God is always on the move. If you do not follow Him step by step, before long, a visible gap will be evident.
On their way to the Promised Land, some of the Israelites got to a beautiful land. It was before the Jordan River whereas the Promised Land was on the other side of the river. The tribes of Gad, Reuben and half the tribe of Manasseh went to plead with Moses that they would prefer that land which their eyes had seen to the Promised Land which still remains a mirage. Moses tried to discourage them but they told him that was their choice so he complied with their demand (Numbers 32:33). Not long after, they began to backslide. Soon the land became heavily infested with demons. In fact according to Mark 5:1-16, when the demons in the Gadarene demoniac were cast out, they entered into swines. This means that the children of God had began to rear swines they were forbidden to touch.
A self-centred choice which relegates God’s preference to the background spells disaster for the one who makes it. Taking what God has not given you is tantamount to courting trouble for the future. Samson chose his wife in total disregard to God’s standard and ended up choosing the woman who stripped him for his enemies to kill. Beloved, involve God in that crucial decision you are about to make. Are you tired of pursuing that goal? Are you getting worried about the length of time it is taking you to arrive at your promised land and you have now decided to settled down for a lesser alternative? No; leave that boat of comfort. It is when you leave the boat and step on the stormy sea with Jesus that you will make history. God does not want you to end up as a local champion. He wants you to get to a level where countries and presidents will come to you to be blessed. Continue the race and before you realize it, you will find yourself on the throne.
MEMORIZE: NUMBERS 32:7 –And wherefore discourage you the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD has given them?
