HUNGRY OR THIRSTY?

READ: PSALMS 63:1-8
Have you felt the pangs of hunger before? Have you ever been thirsty? If you answer yes, it shows your body is working well. The experience of hunger shows that the food that has been eaten earlier has been properly utilized by the body. A body that cannot digest the food eaten has a problem and can never have space for more food hence such a person will not be hungry. There is always a vacuum in the stomach of the hungry waiting to be filled. “As the hart pants after the water brooks, so pants my soul after You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?” (Psalms 42:1-2).
As with the physical, so it is with the spiritual. The soul hungers and thirsts after God. Thank God for the ability to hunger and thirst. These are responsible for your present rate of development and bodily growth. The volume of water you drink and the quantity of food you eat are determined by your degree of thirst and hunger respectively. God can only fill you to the degree of your spiritual hunger. As your body needs food and water daily, so also does your soul need a daily portion of God’s word. You cannot grow beyond your level of hunger or thirst. If you are satisfied with where you are, then God has no place else to take you. “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.” (Matthew 5:6).
As you crave for some daily food, you can hunger and thirst after righteousness. You can strongly desire to be live, walk and talk right. You can desire to be like Him, the more like Him you will become. A child of God who gets to a level where he no longer pants after God is seriously sick. He cannot grow anymore. He will not have fresh testimonies. He will be living in his past glories. If you cannot point to current experiences with God, it is an evidence of backsliding.
How is your Christian life today? If you could pray or study God’s word for up to five hours at a stretch in the past, but can no longer do so, it shows there is no more hunger. It means according to Revelations 2:4, you have lost your first love. Are you contented with your present spiritual level? Arise, and begin to covet heavenly gifts, empowerment and closer relationship with God. Arrival at your promised land depends on it.
MEMORIZE: PROVERBS 23:18 –For surely there is an end; and your expectation shall not be cut off.
