COOKIES

READ: MATTHEW 7:7-11
To receive the showers of blessings, you must be thirsty. You must demonstrate a sense of deep hunger, a large appetite and a great heart. You must hunger and thirst for nothing but showers of blessings. And you must stay focused. Some believers find it difficult to sustain the same desire they started with. If they are asking God for a car, they may start asking for a big car. But after a while, they will ask themselves how they can possibly have the car. So they will move on to a less expensive option. Within one month, or two, they would have switched from one car to another. Such a request may not see the light of the day. In Matthews7:7, Jesus says whatever you desire, which you have identified should continually feature in your petition to heaven until the result comes.
When you ask God for showers, do not ask foolishly. Some Christians think it is humility to ask God for a Volkswagen Beetle car; or pride to ask for a Rolls-Royce. This is not true. Our God is the Almighty God who can do far beyond what you can ever ask or think. He owns everything. If you go before Him and begin to ask for peanuts, that is foolishness. How do you ask of the Lord today? It is what you ask for that you will receive. By your requests you will determine the kind of blessings that will be released upon you. You cannot get beyond your request.
The story is told of a very wealthy man in Lagos. He was very stingy and none of his relations could get anything from him. Yet this man had a soft spot for children and could give anything to them. When his relations saw this, they began to send children to him to make requests of him and they got their desires. One day a particular female relative instructed her little daughter to ask her big uncle for houses, cars, landed property and a large sum of money. The mother promised to give her daughter cookies if she did what she was told. By the time the girl got to her wealthy uncle and he asked her what she wanted, she said ‘cookies.’ The man who did not really mind this method being exploited by his relations pretended he did not know what was going on. He sent her back to her mother to go through the tutoring again. Later, the uncle met the girl and asked what she wanted. She again replied, ‘cookies.’ Do not go to God asking for cookies like the little girl. Ask big.
