PERSEVERING FOR MIRACLES

READ: 1 KINGS 18:41-46
Perseverance is one quality that every believer, especially those who desire something unique from God, must possess. If you must pray then be prepared to wait on the Lord until the answer comes. Impatience after prayer automatically nullifies the request made. Some Christians address God as if He is their houseboy. They say, ‘O God, you must give me a miracle within five minutes.’ Such a command cannot work because God is the Almighty, not your messenger.
Elijah heard the sound of abundant rain yet he went on his knees to call on God for the manifestation of what God had shown him. He had to persevere in prayer. He went to pray on the same issue seven times. The number seven in Scriptures is the number of perfection and completeness. Elijah kept praying until the rains came. In James 5 :16-18, he is cited as an example in effective prayer life. Some brethren will pray once on an issue and thereafter go to sleep. When the result does not manifest, they begin to look for someone to blame. Most times, they pass the blame to God whereas they have just been lazy, impatient and faithless. How is your prayer life today? A prayer life that is not established on the foundation of perseverance had eroded its usefulness.
Those who will experience showers of blessings must realise that the manifestation of the blessing is entirely dependent on God’s timing. And they must be prepared to wait and hold on to God until the answer comes. Nobody can dictate to God how and the exact time to perform a miracle. He does as He pleases. In Matthew 8 :1-3, a leper came to Him, He touched him and he was instantly healed. But when the ten lepers met Him, He asked them to go and show themselves to the priest and they were healed on the way. The methodology and timing of the miracle are entirely in His domain, not yours. Some healings are instant, others are progressive. He determines what He wants and we all have to abide by His verdict.
A boy who had no eyeballs attended an open-air crusade believing God for healing. At the end of the meeting, he returned home still blind but with a resolve to see by God’s healing power. By the following day, he felt his empty eye sockets and instead of coldness, he felt warmth for the first time. He continued praying for three months until one day the Lord told him, ‘Son, you are going to see today.’ When he opened his eyes, he discovered his empty eye sockets had been filled with two new eyeballs and he could now see. Don’t give up. Hold on to God. He will release that blessing on you.
