READ: GENESIS 32:24-28
In Ezekiel 34:26, the Lord promised to send showers
of blessings. This is restricted to those who would be channels of blessings,
to the thirsty, and to those who can ask for hard things. In addition to
receiving this blessing, you must demonstrate rugged determination. You must be
someone who is not easily discouraged by set backs, disappointments or delays.
Your faith may be tested and stretched but you must endure. You must be ready
to wait on God until He answers you.
Jacob knew what he wanted. He was not prepared to take ‘no’ for an answer. He held tight to the angel until he got his breakthrough. How persistent are you? Another condition to be met in order to receive the showers is that you must be focused. You must not be distracted from your purpose. You will not be affected by the praise or criticism of those around you. You will be single-minded.
Several years ago, I travelled to pastor Yonggi Cho’s church in South Korea and was greatly challenged. At that time the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) had a total membership strength of about 3000. Dr Cho’s church was the world’s largest single congregation at the time. While I wonder at the possibility of such gathering, I soon discovered that their secret was prayer. There was a place called the prayer mountain which had pockets of grottos where people could take serious requests to God. Then they told us: ‘Those of you who have come for sight seeing are free to walk around.’ Every visitor made their choice. I chose to have a fresh encounter with God.
While others were busy taking pictures and exchanging banters, I entered one of the grottos and prayed like I never did saying, ‘O Lord, if you could do this through your servant, David Yonggi Cho, lay your hand upon me and use me mightily to do exploits in Africa. I am prepared to do what it takes to witness God’s visitation upon the Africa continent.’ Today the RCCG has well more than 8000 parishes and more than six million members in hundred and sisty nations. The Lord is just begenning with us. We are far from where He is taking us to. Are you focused? If you catch the vision of fasting and prayer and combine this with unusual requests, you will make history for the Lord.

a prince have you power with God and with men, and have prevailed.
