READ: 1 PETER 3:1-6
“As a jewel of gold in a swine’s snout, so is
a fair woman which is without discretion.” (Proverbs 11:22). Abigail is described as a woman of good understanding
and a beautiful countenance. This is beautiful combination of inward and
outward according to 1 Samuel 25:3. But the woman who has the outward beauty
without the inward beauty, is like a pig decorated with gold. No matter how you
decorate a pig, it will still end up in the dirt. If the outward is your
foremost consideration in choosing a wife, you might end up marrying a pig with
golden earrings. If your number one preference is the features of the man, you
might end up marrying a handsome armed robber or fraudster. Through such
considerations, many Christians have ended up trapped by agents of Satan; a
trap they may not easily be free from.
The story was told of a young, pretty lady who came into a church and gave her life to Christ. Later on, she joined the choir and rose to become an instrumentalist and a choir leader. Everyone admired her. But unknown to all, she had her mission concealed in her heart. She targeted a particular fervent brother. Over time, they got talking and before you knew it, they were talking about marriage.
The brother did not take pains to find out from God if she was his wife. Everything else appeared in order. She was beautiful. She was spiritual, at least to the best of their knowledge. She was a choir leader and instrumentalist. She was like every Christian man’s dream wife. So he went ahead and married her on a Saturday. The next morning, the brother woke his wife to prepare for the church service. Imagine the shocker he got when she said, ‘Which church service? I came to church because I wanted to marry you. Now I have got you, I am through with church’. After this, she destroyed her musical instrument. A day after his wedding, the brother realized he had married a ‘devil’. Satanic agents, male or female, can go any length to actualize their mission. Be careful. Let the Holy Spirit who cannot be fooled, be your guide.
