CONTENT OR CONTAINER?

READ: MATTHEW 23:27-28
The content of a cup is very important to the user of the cup. The cup is only a vessel. What will determine the user’s satisfaction is its content. Of what use is a beautiful container if the content is poison? In today’s reading, Jesus condemns those who decorate graves when they know what is inside is rottenness. Genesis 3:13-18 says that we are dust and one day our bodies will return to dust. Of what use is a golden coffin when what is inside is ordinary dust?
In Peter 3:1-4, we are enjoined to decorate the inside rather than the outside. In other words, according to 2 Corinthians 4:7, let your body be filled with godly treasures. Let your attention be one how the Almighty God can fill your body with His power and fullness. “And to know the love of Christ, which passes knowledge, that you might be filled with all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:19).
The physical appearance of your body is not as important as what your body contains. Your body contains the breath of God, the spirit as well as the real you, your soul. You require the word of God to feed your inner man. Every spiritual activity you indulge in such as praising God, worshipping Him, praying, speaking in tongues, studying the word of God and hiding God’s word in your heart, are avenues for filling your spiritual stomach.
When confronted by unpleasant situation and challenges, it’s what is in your spirit-man that will be released to contain them. But if your physical stomach is loaded and your spiritual stomach is starving, you will attempt to use physical means to fight spiritual battles. The mouth will pnly speak what the heart is full of. What do you load yourself with today? Magazines, novels and newspapers? You cannot use these to handle your spiritual challenges. Take time to get filled with the Holy Spirit. Develop the fruit of the Holy Spirit in you. Load in more of God regularly and deliberately. Spend quality time in God’s presence. And your content will be to God’s glory.
MEMORIZE: EPHESIANS 3:19 –And to know the love of Christ, which passes knowledge, that you might be filled with all the fullness of God.
