READ: PROVERBS 3:13-38
Wealth is good but is
not everything. Those who make wealth their ultimate goal in life make a big
mistake. There are some things that are superior to money and material
possessions. “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving
favour rather than silver and gold” (Proverbs 22:1).
Having a good name is better than money. As you work toward financial and material prosperity, let it not be at the cost of your good name. Watch your sources of wealth or livelihood. Shun any source that would put God’s name in bad light. A good name can open doors to you and your descendants after you. Ensure you build a good name and leave it as a legacy that your children will inherit. According to Proverbs 4:7-9, wisdom is another thing you should strive hard to obtain. Proverbs 8:11 says wisdom is better than precious stones such as rubies. The beginning of wisdom is the fear of God (Proverbs 9:10). That means if you are wealthy, but do not fear the Lord, you have nothing because Proverbs 1:32-33 says your prosperity will destroy you. James 1:5-8 gives an open invitation for you to grab as much wisdom as you would desire. If you decide to remain foolish when you can be wise, it’s your choice. The first step to receiving wisdom is by accepting Jesus the wisdom of God, into your life. Then study and learn about Him from the Bible and put His words into practice. You will be wise.
Another thing that is greater than silver and gold is the power of God. In Acts 3:7-11, Peter met a lame man and told him he had no money but the name of Jesus. By the anointing of Jesus, the man was healed. Acts 19:11-12 tells us that Paul preferred the power of God to wealth. It is therefore not a surprise when by the power of God; he began to perform uncommon miracles. What do you seek today? With the anointing, you can have more than the material prosperity you have always craved. You can have life, honour and fame as well (Proverbs 22:4). What are you pursuing today? Focus on things that are better than rubies. At the end, they will bring you material things as well. The choice is yours.
